Katsumi Komagata
Here is one of many incredible books by Japanese children’s book designer, Katsumi Komagata. It’s called Feuilles (leaves) and is co-published by all of these amazing people: One Stroke (the author’s company), Les Trois Ourses, Les Droigts Qui Rêves and the Centre Pompidou in 2004. Every single one of Komagata’s books is better than the last, but this one is double fantastic as it tells the life of leaves and it’s clever tactility is as captivating for visually impaired children as for colour obsessed designers.
You can start here, click on the orange arrows, and take a tour through Komagata's work.

windyandfriends{dot}com
Ah, so...in our books you will find the url windyandfriends{dot}com. Here, for nostalgia, is an old page from our web site (Duthie Books, we miss you).

What happened to our web site? A few years ago our host closed, our files were transferred and somewhere along the way we temporarily lost the site. The good news is that we have emerged from the wilderness, and our new provider is stable and helpful.
For the time being, we are going to make this blog our home. Someday, we will put up a proper web site, but in the meantime, you may bookmark this blog. When we have a new site up, we will let you know.
We will be posting activities and colouring pages from the old site and also we are working on a list of places to find the books.

Foggy outtake

In many ways editing is one of the most difficult challenge of writing a children's book. You can only use so many images, and you often have to choose only the ones which really serve the story. This image of the City enveloped in fog was one of our favourite images, but there wasn't room for it in the book.
Edited to add that Sara O'Leary has a related post about writing children's books in her blog today.
